Join us for a "Hard Hat" tour of a lovely historic home on Monument Avenue.  This home, previously divided into several apartments, has been stripped to its original architecture and is awaiting an incredible renovation. We have four great guest speakers to give you some insight into this particular project, as well as the ins and outs of historic preservation in Richmond.

  • Laurie Petronis:  Laurie is this home's new owner and an experienced renovation veteran.  She will provide us with a tour of the home and point out many of the original details that were buried under years of bad renovations.
  • Jeff Hamm, Parrish Construction:  Jeff is the contractor that has great plans for the restoration and renovation of this lovely home.  He will explain some of the architectural plans and challenges of this project.
  • Joseph Yates, Joseph F. Yates, Architects:  Joe specializes in residential, preservation, restoration and adaptive re-use projects across the Commonwealth.  Joe's firm has completed the renovation / restoration of seven Monument Avenue homes and are currently working on two other projects on the avenue.  The firm has also won two Golden Hammer Awards from the Historic Richmond Foundation.
  • Kim Chen, Johannes Design Group, Assoc. AIA:  Kim is a partner with Johannes Design Group and brings 25 years experience in architectural history, historic preservation and urban planning.  Currently a distinguished member of the Adjunct Faculty at VCU, Kim teaches graduate level courses in Historic Preservation Planning.  Kim will discuss the challenges of historic preservation and the pitfalls to avoid when applying for tax credits.
  • TracyWard, BB&T Mortgage:  Tracy is an Assistant Vice President with BB&T.  Tracy has 24 years of banking experience and specializes in BB&T's One-Time-Closing Construction to Permanent Loans.   Tracy will discuss some of the intricacies of financing a restoration project.
